From Refugee to Columbia Engineering Student

In 2019, Columbia University announced the new Scholarships for Displaced Students. One of its recent recipients, Ali Danish Bakhtyari, is a former child actor who appeared in the film “The Kite Runner” and twice fled Taliban rule. Now a Master's student in the Department of Civil Engineering and Engineering Mechanics, Bakhtyari’s story was featured in a video interview from Voice of America.
