Jonathan Blutinger is a design engineer and creative technologist whose research bridges design, robotics, and food technology across academia and industry. He holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Columbia University, where he also completed his postdoctoral studies, and a B.S.E. and M.S.E. from the University of Pennsylvania in Mechanical Engineering and Integrated Product Design. He subsequently completed a research fellowship at the U.S. Army’s Combat Feeding Division.
His work explores software-enabled food production, digital manufacturing, and emerging cooking technologies. Alongside his academic work, he practices as a Senior Design Engineer at Smart Design to craft real-world products. His teaching emphasizes applied, project-based learning grounded in strong theoretical foundations.
